I am typing this from Tigri slum's computer room, and right now I feel very proud of our team! They have been working very hard on the murals which are looking bright and colourful. Most have been for a visit to the slum, visited homes and heard some heart-rending stories. Right now, most of our girls are taking a lifestyle tutorial group for the older girls (12-16ish) using roleplay to demonstrate how they should behave eg when meeting someone for the first time, eating a meal or going for a job interview. The girls are listening avidly and they are doing a great job! Yesterday, others took a tutorial group for the students, encouraging them in their studies and helping them broaden their horizons and encourage their dreams for the future. These things are so important for these youngsters who have had such a narrow exposure to instruction and advice about lifeskills etc!
Yesterday, when I went for a slum visit, we were able to pray with a family who have experienced hardship through loss of their father/husband, and are now starting to see a future for themselves as the children enter higher education, and Mum provides a worthwhile service to her neighbours by being a Community Health Volunteer! We were also asked to pray for a young woman suffering from arthritis.
Freddy came to see us today - it was good to catch up with him and to hear what Asha is working on at the moment!
As I type, I have just had three beautiful little girls come up to me and look over my shoulder - just to say hello! One was holding her balloon sculpture which she has just made with Ian's help! Another balloon has just popped, echoing loudly around the community building. Julie tells me Daisy is "holding court" with the girls' group! It's good here!
