Taj Mahal and Red Fort, at Agra.

Our sightseeing day, before returning to Tigri tomorrow. Up early for a 7:00 departure by Road (204Km) to Agra, to see the Taj Mahal, and The Red Fort. An elderly coach, remarkably robust, with a driver and “helper” who do not speak....... nor do they speak any English either. A busy road, with lots of villages and towns en route. Complete disregard for traffic lights and road sense. Whole families on small auto rickshaws. I counted at least 15 on a machine designed for 3 (incl driver). Overtaking rule is, see a gap, fill it with your vehicle, even if it is a large lorry. Hundreds of eating places along the way, so breakfast as Grilled Egg Sandwich at around 100 km, arriving around 12:30 a long morning. Average speed outside the towns was about 40 mph, inside about 10. For those who know Crocki Woky (apologies to Stuart) he made numerous appearances on the coach, and was eventually removed from his owner and “looked after”.

The Taj and Red Fort are simply stunning. Last time Dick, Julie Sue and I visited the Taj, so we went to the Red Fort this time. The largest Fort in India, it was built by the Grandfather in the family. The Taj was built by the Grandson. Usual line of sellers at the entrance, the Guide told us “No Thanks” starts a conversation” . Just walk through. Good advice, they are very persistent. Hundreds of people, including parakeets, monkeys, Red Kites and the worldwide friend, the pigeon. Much camera snapping.

Most of the return was in the dark. Can’t see much in the dark, but it seems neither can anyone else, two big accidents on the way back, moved to the side, but clear write offs. No evidence of any one hurt, although Daisy, Jan and Frances got a hugh shock when a lorry “made contact”, nobody stopped, and life went on!!

A long day, we returned to the YMCA around midnight, to be up around 7:30 for breakfast and onto Tigri.

Pictures soon!!
