Lorraine says

wow, what a lot of rain (first evening); otherwise dry, dusty, hazy, warm, friendly and food better than expected....these are my first impressions. Off to Asha now!

First day

Well, here I am in India still can't quite believe I am here - arrived yesterday after an uneventful - thankfully - flight. Arrived in Dehli got sorted and then the drive to the YMCA - not sure if driving tests are ever taken here and the highway code and give way is nowhere insight!

Enjoyed "high tea" in the Imperial Hotel which is a completely different world to the one we walked through to get there! Enjoyed a wonderful thunder storm complete with lightening.

Good night's sleep and had to be woken by Daisy this morning - but no coffee to wake me up!!! Must get room service to sort this out tomorrow - John - where are you?

Off to have an introductory Asha morning and to see the Tigri walls to get an idea what we will be doing and then may go shopping in the afternoon. Wach this space - same time, same place same channel. Jx

beds and towels!

So I was enjoying my breakfast this morning - and Nigel was relating to me how he had ordered an extra pillow and towel for thier room - which finally arrived after he had gone to sleep! Well - I said...you were lucky lad...I had fallen asleep in my chair and was woken up by the knock on the door as they finally came to deliver my....BED!!! Next morning I found this on a YMCA wall...!!!

Still we're all here, and all slept well and are looking forward to visiting Tigri this morning before having a free afternoon to explore. There is talk of a few of us visiting the Indian Railways Mueum p'raps?

And so far...Lorraine has survived to tell the tale...

Arrived!

We are all here! Now at YMCA sorting rooms, which are booked differently to the request! Out for tea next.

up, up and away

Well now, I have managed to negotiate my way on to here! All bags are packed and ready to go, but am I? well, yes and no. I am very excited to be joining this trip to Tigri and really looking forward to what God has planned for us during this challenging trip and no - even though we have seen photos etc of where we will be, until I actually get there and see for myself, I am still not quite sure what my reaction will be, but can't wait.

Going with a lovely bunch of people and really looking forward to getting to know some of the group better.

Have my ear plugs, so if anyone snores - so what! Learnt how to use the camera so hopefully there will be some really wonderful pictures to follow.

Birchfield Primary School

Julie and I were asked to give a presentation to year 4 a week or two back. We had a great time talking to a very receptive group of 8-9 yr olds, involving some role play of slum life etc. Following on from that we have received a bundle of letters and artwork to take out to the children of Tigri slum - and several bags of toys too! We hope that the Tigri children will be able to write back to the children at Birchfield using us as postmen!
